The appointment of McAllister will increase speculation that Gordon Strachan is set to replace Hart as manager at the club.
McAllister snubbed the chance to become Scotland’s assistant manager last week.
He said: “At this stage of my career it is more important for me to hold out for a full-time job at club level.”
