Real Salt Lake announce stadium name

The stadium will be named Rio Tinto Stadium. Rio Tinto is a London-based mining and exploration company who have signed a multi-year naming rights deal with Real Salt Lake.

Rio Tinto will pay Real Salt Lake between $1.5million and $2million a year for 15 years for the rights.

“When you have a company like Rio Tinto and they make a commitment on your organization, it’s a true testament to the growth of our franchise,” Checketts said.

“We’re a global company, but we believe very strongly in maintaining local ties,” said Bret Clayton, Rio Tinto’s chief executive officer.
