Sampdoria chief Marotta: Suspension costing clubs £4 million-a-day

Marotta said: “It’s true. But this is something we must accept in the face of the tragedy that has occurred.

“It was the correct course of action. Obviously soccer is a social phenomenon but also an economic movement. Clubs are financial companies and rely on the revenue from television rights. The suspension can cause huge managerial problems.

“But this is the right time to pause and reflect on what changes can be introduced.”
