The Association of South East Asian nations has released a statement saying: “It is possible for ASEAN to jointly host the event in 20 years time and to possibly meet the football standards then due to the aggressive football youth development programmes of ASEAN member nations”
ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It is unclear how many, or if all, are considering making a bid, but it would be logistically difficult for a large number of nations to jointly host the event, given that only 32 teams compete in each World Cup.
