Spurs keeper admits they must beat Newcastle

Spurs are currently eight points behind Manchester United after only managing a goalless draw with the league leaders at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Gomes said: “If we want to have a say in the title then we must win at stadiums like at Newcastle.

“If we are to make up points on teams like Manchester United, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea, we can’t afford to fail in these sort of matches.

“Harry says that we are candidates for the title and I think that is certain. We’ve proved we’re on the same level with the leaders. That 0-0 scoreline has given us a lot of belief.”

“We deserved better luck and the whole squad was not satisfied,” said Gomes of their draw with Manchester United. “Now it is important we react in the right way and win at Newcastle. We know it won’t be easy but we also have the strength in our squad and the belief.

“But Newcastle are a very dangerous team at home and if we want to win then we must play with the same intensity we showed against Manchester United.”
