New Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is keen on signing the DR Congo skipper in a bid to rebuild at the Stadium of Light.
The 28-year-old scored just five goals in 59 games during his time at Newcastle.
LuaLua has spent the past year at Qatar side Al-Arabi.
He said: “I loved my time in the North East. I’d love to play again in the Premier League.”
