Ovrebo has himself been under fire and even recieved death threats.
The Norwegian had to be smuggled out of England under police protection after a poor performance in the Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona last season.
Ovrebo told Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen: “It is difficult to comment on this case specifically, since I have neither spoken to Martin Hansson or verified the incident.
“But generally I would say that anyone who is a referee at the elite level is equipped to deal with attention.”
He added: “Of course it is impossible to know how he is doing right now without having to talk to him, but I think he, like all other referees can deal with this.”
