The Mirror reports that Moyes is keen to strengthen his attack in January and could make a loan move for Macheda.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he is keen for the 19-year-old to leave the club on loan in order to get regular first-team action.
Macheda has also been linked with the likes of Parma, Fiorentina, Juventus and Lazio.
