Southgate said: “Gary didn’t have too much time to show what he can do but I thought he did well.
“He seemed to settle into the side very quickly, which is what you would expect from a player with his Premier League experience.
“Gary initially came on the right but then he switched with Stewart Downing for the last 15 minutes because Stewart felt he could make a bigger impact by cutting inside from the right hand side.”
