The 20-year-old is currently at Aberdeen for a week’s trial and could join the club on an initial loan deal.
McGhee said: “I watched Marshall play for City’s reserve team and there is no doubt he is a good footballer.
“He’s a tall left-sided central midfielder who is a good passer of the ball and different from anything we have.
“We’d be looking at taking the boy on loan initially but I think he would be available to make that permanent.”
