The Daily Express reports that United’s current owners are ‘only haggling over details’, but a deal to sell the club to Qatar Holdings in a £1.6billion deal is virtually done.
The deal would see the Glazer family double their money, after buying United in a £790million deal in the summer of 2005.
“The deal is pretty much done and they are only haggling over details,” a well-placed source told the Daily Express.
But United’s director of commuications Phil Townsend insisted last night that a sale of the club is not imminent.
He told the Daily Express: “There has been no approach to buy Manchester United and no approach would be welcome.”
