Ferdinand keen on new Sunderland deal

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Black Cats due to a lack of first-team football.

But Ferdinand is determined to prove his worth at Sunderland.

Ferdinand said: “I’d love to sign a new contract here.

“I owe this club a lot and if that day comes, it comes. If not, I will have to look elsewhere.”

He added: “It’s been a bit of an up and down season for me. At the start of the season I didn’t know whether I was coming or going.

“I was making sure I was fit for the start of the season, then I had the hamstring injury and then I had a bust up with the manager, an argument, and then we sorted out our differences.

“He was man enough to bury the hatchet and so was I. As I’ve said before on many occasions, I’d like to thank him for that, because not many managers would have done it. I owe a lot to him for that.

“It was just something that happened. It wasn’t malicious. But it was something that maybe did need to happen, I don’t know. To clear the air. But we’re both past it, we don’t want to look back on it – I certainly don’t – and I just want to repay the manager with performances.”
