James hails Pompey duo

Hart was named caretaker manager at the club, following the sacking of Tony Adams last Monday and brought in Kidd as his assistant.

Portsmouth managed to get a 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

James told reporters: “With communication, you can do a lot of things in a short space of time. It is not as if you are dealing with a dressing room full of inexperienced players. It is the same side as last year.

“There were some things Kiddo was saying about our training that he said he had never seen before and that was surprising

“The pair of them never shut up, but in the right way. It is not ranting and raving but they talk and make their views clear.

“That was what was needed. If one game was anything to go by you would sign them up for a couple of years, but in reality it is a board decision.

“I worked with Kiddo in the England set-up. He was telling me about Manchester United – not in a bragging way – and how he worked with individuals.

“It was amazing to have that conversation with him, because it is exactly what I had been saying for 18 months. It is better than someone coming in with something outlandish and slightly bizarre.”
