Cole has signed a four-year contract with the Reds following his release by Chelsea earlier this summer.
The 28-year-old is set to undergo a medical in the next 48 hours, after having agreed personal terms with the Reds.
Cole was also linked with clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham.
