The 34-year-old is available on a free transfer as his contract with Bundesliga side Hamburg expired.
“We are interested in Ruud van Nistelrooy and as far as I am concerned it looks promising,” Malaga director Antonio Fernandez told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“We have yet to receive the word of the player. However, he likes our offer.”
