Rosenborg boss Erik Hamren is being lined up to take over as head coach of the Sweden national team.
Solskjaer’s adviser Jim Solbakken said: “It is only natural that the Norwegian club would check out Ole Gunnar’s situation. He will not be reserve team coach at Manchester United for the rest of his life.”
Solskjaer was offered the chance to manage the Norway national team earlier this year.
