Eriksson is keen to make the 36-year-old left-back his second big-name signing, since joining the club.
Last month former Portsmouth and Arsenal star Sol Campbell joined the club.
A Meadow Lane source told News of the World: “Sol Campbell was the first big-name signing – but he won’t be the last.
“In the next couple of weeks the club hopes to bring in four or five other top names, either on free transfers or on loan.
“Roberto Carlos is top of the list. There have already been talks and he wants big, big wages but that’s OK – money is not an issue here.”
