Simpson rejected a new four-and-a-half years contract with the Magpies in January, but is keen to be at the club again next season, whether he signs a new contract or not.
A source close to Simpson told the Evening Chronicle: “Danny loves it in Newcastle and is excited about next season.
“He wants to stay at Newcastle next year and then see what happens.”
The 25-year-old’s current contract with Newcastle is set to expire at the end of next season.
