Del Piero will equal Boniperti’s league appearance record of 444 games, when Juventus face Livorno tonight.
“Del Piero is a golden boy and he has everything to go forward as a director at the club,” Boniperti told Tuttosport.
“I can see him as being the future president of Juventus and I would be happy if he took that role.”
It was Boniperti who signed Del Piero as a youth team product from Padova in 1993.
“I remember going to see him play and I saw he was made of champion material. I was lucky in my choice, and I am happy for him today.”
