Deschamps pleased to be in Italy

Didier Deschamps has said he is pleased to be back in Italy with his France team for tonight’s friendly between the two countries.

Deschamps enjoyed a distinguished playing career at Juventus, whom he subsequently managed after leaving Monaco less than a decade ago.

“It is a friendly, but the result is always important,” said Deschamps.

“When you take on a team like Italy, who are one of the best in the world, there are always special expectations and it requires a particular level of concentration.

“I was happy in Turin, both professionally and personally. I have only positive memories. I’m happy to be back in Italy, even if I had hoped this game would be played in Turin.

“It will be wonderful to meet up with players who I knew and had the pleasure to train.”
