Wigan Athletic midfielder Kevin Kilbane felt it was time for a change, and was relieved when Everton boss David Moyes called him and said they had accepted an offer from Wigan.
He said: “David Moyes called me and said he’d accepted an offer from Wigan.
“I felt it was the right time to move. I had three great years at Everton and loved every minute — but I was disappointed with my form last season.
“And, although I started the first three games, I felt I should move on. It was time for a change.
“Everton will certainly be full of confidence and looking to push on after their 3-0 derby win over Liverpool but we can go there and get a result.”
