The Dutch giants managed to hold on to Huntelaar last summer, despite interest from several major European clubs.
Ajax sporting director Danny Blind told SportWeek: “We are in constant contract talks with Huntelaar’s agent. It is no secret that our intention is to get Huntelaar to sign a new long term contract.”
Huntelaar suffered an ankle injury at the weekend and has postponed negotiations over a new deal until the new year.
