Nakamura has failed to make an impact at Espanyol since joining the club from Celtic last summer.
Espanyol will let the 31-year-old move back to Japan on loan.
“Nakamura is a big player, but his problem has been adapting to Spain,” said Espanyol coach Mauricio Pocchetino.
“Then he can also not communicate with his team-mates and because of this it has been hard for him to offer good performances.”
