Arsenal keeper delighted with West Ham move

Almunia has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium in recent seasons and has now been given a new lease of life by the Hammers.

He said: “It’s been a hard time for me recently. I was not playing at Arsenal and was frustrated.

“I was hoping to leave and try to play for another team and have minutes on the field. The most important thing is playing football and feeling the ball.

“This is a new episode of my life. I’m happy West Ham gave me the call and I’m very pleased to be here.

“They are the strongest team in the Championship. I hope I can help them be top of the league come the end of the season.”
