Lampard believes the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder has earned the right to feature for Britain at London 2012.
Lampard told the Sunday Sun: “After the way he was so heavily involved in getting the Games to London then yes I did think he would be playing at the Olympics. I know what Becks is like — he is so passionate about his country.
“I know he would have gone full pelt for Team GB.
“And I think his big personality and presence would have been a major plus for the squad.
“So it was a big surprise to me when he was left out especially after he was included in the initial squad.”
