The Argentina international has admitted that he is unsettled at Liverpool and is reportedly keen on a return to Argentina.
“I would love to have him here as he is a very good player and would be very good for our squad,” said Rodgers.
“He will understand 120 per cent about the way I want us to play. But sometimes there are issues. It has been difficult for his family.
“I have had a couple of really good conversations with him. It was difficult for him last season. He probably felt he should have played more.”
