Roeder told Sky Sports News: “I was not surprised about the speculation, I was surprised it was Sunderland to be truthful, but when I thought about it I thought well perhaps not.
“They are local rivals, Irish manager, Irish chairman I suppose it sort of makes sense.
“And yet things like that I just let wash over top of my head but I do have to say something about it and there isn’t any chance whatsoever of Damien Duff playing for Sunderland next year.”
