Sheffield United could be forced into a late transfer decision as Championship rivals Portsmouth step up their interest in Rhys Norrington-Davies.
The Wales international may leave Bramall Lane before the September 1 deadline as Chris Wilder reshapes his first-team group.
The Star reports that Pompey have identified the 27-year-old as a potential loan target. Norrington-Davies rebuilt his momentum during a productive spell at QPR last season following several injury-hit campaigns.
However, Sam McCallum and Harrison Burrows are currently ahead of him in the left-back pecking order. United may still block an immediate exit until cover is secured, with Wilder also seeking two centre-backs through loans or free transfers.
Goalkeeper Ivo Grbic is another likely departure. He is closing in on a loan switch to Genclerbirligi, a move expected to end his Blades career in practical terms. Wilder has confirmed more fringe players could follow as United complete their squad reprofile.
