Nugent spent seven years at the Anfield academy but he and his family are lifelong Everton fans.
He said: “I was with Liverpool from the age of seven.
“But one day they told me I was not good enough.
“I eventually ended up at Bury and just wanted to prove people wrong. I think I have done that.
“This is the first time I have faced Liverpool since I left.
“All my family are massive Everton fans, so they want me to win even more than usual.”
