Arsenal ace offered new one year deal

Gallas’ contract with the Gunners is set to expire in the summer but Wenger is not prepared to make an exception to his ‘over-30s rule’ by offering the defender a longer deal.

Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood said: “Arsene has a policy with players who are aged 30 to offer them one-year extensions.

“He has not asked us to make an exception for Gallas. If he did, I am sure the board would agree to it.

“It is not out of the question, but it is certainly not on the table at the moment.

“I think it is proper for players of that age to get one-year deals. Then if they do well, they get another year.

“It worked perfectly well for the likes of Dennis Bergkamp.”
