Villa boss Gerard Houllier is reportedly keen to bring in Ljungberg on-loan for the second-half of the Premier League season.
Villa have already signed Robert Pires, but will be looking to boost the experience of their midfield even further by signing Ljungberg.
Ljungberg joined Chicago Fire from Seattle Sounders last season.
