Puyol has been a key part of the Spanish national side for several years and has made 80 caps since his debut for Spain in November 2000.
Puyol told Radio Marca: “Is South Africa going to be my last big competition with Spain? It is possible because I am getting older and there are quality replacements ready to fill in.
“My plan is to play at the World Cup and after that hold talks with the coach and Hierro in order to make a choice.”
