A brace from Matheus secured a 2-0 win to the Portuguese side in the Champions League clash.
“We’re all delighted with the win. I had the joy of scoring the two goals, but the whole team have to be congratulated,” said Matheus to uefa.com.
“I think my second goal against Arsenal that was the best of my career and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be living such a moment. It’s a dream come true.
“We knew it was going to be a very difficult match because Arsenal are one of the best teams in Europe, but we worked hard for the whole game and we finished as winners because of our strength.
“In football everything is possible. We’re going to try our best against Shakhtar and see what happens, but one thing is certain – we’re going to do everything we can and fight until the last second to achieve our objectives. I think we can win in Ukraine.”
