The Sun reports that Brighton are keen to sign Owen in order to boost their chances of promotion to the Premier League.
United would reportedly demand only nominal fee for the 32-year-old striker.
Owen is currently behind the likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
