Charlton’s Young: No problem with me and Bent over captaincy

Young told The Sun: “There’s been a lot of banter between me and Darren about the captaincy. He’s been waiting a long time to be captain and even told people he was the vice-captain – even though he wasn’t.

“He kept asking me to throw him the armband if I ever got injured so that’s the kind of guy he is. He always wants to lead the side.

“I’ll be fine if he is named skipper against West Ham. My biggest thing at the moment is getting back into the side and trying to stay there.”

Young added: “It’s just massive having Darren back.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on him but he scores so many goals and will be vital to our survival chances.

“When you’re lacking goals, as we have been, everyone looks around for someone to go and get them – they look to Darren. He knows that and he’ll thrive on that pressure.

“He can do it for us and hopefully that will start against West Ham.”
