United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a long-time admirer of the former West Ham midfielder.
Cole’s contract with Chelsea is set to expire at the end of the season and if there is no agreement on a new deal he could join United, according to The Sunday Express.
Cole is currently earning £80,000-a-week at Chelsea, but is keen on an improved deal that would see him earn around £100,000-a-week.
The Sunday Express says Cole would prefer a move to United if he is to leave Chelsea.
