Dalglish urges Capello caution over Carroll

Dalglish, who has begun talks with Liverpool’s new owners over a contract extension to his current temporary stint, says £35m signing Andy Carroll is not fit enough to play for England currently, stating:

“I don’t know if Fabio wants to pick him or not but there is no point us being as guided as we have been in his recuperation…if someone else is going to waste all that.”

“A lot of things he did in that [Braga] game were encouraging and he still has a good bit of fitness to come but England have to be responsible with him.”

“We fully understand somebody wanting to pick his best players for England but they also have to understand the fact that [Carroll] is not really there yet for fitness. If [Capello] picks him, he picks him. That’s up to him.”
