Deschamps: Pressure too great at Juventus

He told Radio Monte Carlo: “I have had a very difficult season despite the excellent results achieved with my players and staff. Then I analysed the situation and decided to hand in my resignation on Wednesday evening.

“The problem was not that I wanted to decide on everything, it was a number of different factors.

“It is true that I had difficulty this year and wanted to know how we were going to be organised next season which, I am convinced, will be very tough.

“There is a lot to be done and the fans’ expectations are high. A Coach needs to work in a relaxed atmosphere and, looking carefully at the situation, I made this decision that I consider to be in my best interests.”

He added: “My ambition is to lead a top side next season. Now I am available again, we will see over the next few days and weeks what proposals arrive.

“I want a squad that plays to win, but I do not wish to negotiate with clubs that already have a Coach.”
