Drenthe confident he will be a success at Real

Reports earlier this summer suggested that Drenthe was one of the players club president Florentino Perez was ready to sell.

“It’s normal to talk about releasing players at the end of each season, but I always believed I would stay here,” he was quoted as saying by Real Madrid’s official website.

“I signed a five-year contract and I want to have much success here. I’m working hard, as are the rest of my team-mates.

“The coach has talked to me and he is happy about my performance. There are many quality players and there will be competition for each spot in the line-up, but I’m willing to fight for one of them.

“I feel at home in the country, in the city and at the club. There are many new players and I’m happy with them too.

“There are many new players, but we’ve built a team. We’ve worked hard in pre-season and now we must wait for the official games to analyse the team.”
