Pienaar has impressed for Everton in recent seasons but has just 13 months left on his contract with the club.
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the highly-rated midfielder.
An Everton insider told the Sunday Mirror: “Steven won’t be allowed to leave this club on the cheap.
“We’d rather keep him for the final year of his contract that lose him for a nominal fee because we would then have to spend money finding a replacement.”
