Folan just recently joined the Championship side on loan from Hull.
“We don’t know the length of time he’ll be out for yet but it looks like quite a serious one,” said manager Gareth Southgate.
“That’s a big disappointment for him, first and foremost, having just got here, and also for us. We’ve brought him here for a reason and it’s frustrating not to be able to play him.”
