Hodgson believes Hangeland is one of the finest defenders in the Premier League at the moment.
“Brede came to us (from FC Copenhagen) during a difficult period when we were battling with our backs against the wall,” Hodgson told Dagbladet.
“He was one of the keys to our survival last season.
“He has turned out to be a leader in our defence and I believe he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League.”
Reports have linked Hangeland with Tottenham and Arsenal in recent weeks.
