The new deal will keep the 22-year-old at the Riverside until the summer of 2012.
“I spoke to the gaffer at the end of the season and he said he wanted to keep me,” Grounds told the club’s official website.
“It’s going to be an exciting time here.
“The club is going to make a big push to get back in the Premier League and I want to be a part of that.”
