The 30-year-old has signed a three-month loan deal from Aston Villa.
“I can’t wait to get my career back on track,” he told the Newcastle Chronicle.
“I’m fit and raring to go and really believe I am at one of the biggest clubs there is. This is a great challenge for me and now I just want to play my part.
“I just can’t wait for my debut. Whether it comes at Ipswich or in front of what I hope will be a packed house at St James’s Park.
“That is one of the greatest things about signing here. The potential to play in front of 52,000 fans is a very special one.”
