I’ll never turn my back on England – Terry

Terry had his commitment to the Three Lions questioned this week.

The 27-year-old said: “I have heard people talking about my commitment to England and asking how I could be out on Wednesday but then fit for Saturday.

“I was gutted to come back from England duty and really frustrated. There were four days when I really should have come back earlier but I said to the manager and Franco Baldini that I wanted to give it a real go.

“Each day I stayed and tried but it just didn’t get better. I came back to Chelsea and on the Tuesday and Wednesday it still wasn’t right.

“Even on the Thursday I did some jogging and told the manager it didn’t feel right. I came in Friday and it was much better so I was able to travel and play.

“I’m just disappointed that some people in the media and the fans — and some people who’ve known me a long time — have questioned my determination to play for club or country.”

Terry added on his injury: “I don’t understand where all this is coming from. I’m completely fine.

“The back’s completely fine. I’ve had three or four scans over a two-week period and the back’s in great condition. It was just a stiff back!”
