Materazzi could be out for up to four months due to a thigh injury he suffered while playing for his country on Wednesday night against Hungary.
The Italian national team doctor Andrea Ferretti said: “We’ll need a couple of hours to decide how long he’ll be out. It could be several weeks.
“Hopefully, we can give him a Christmas present so he can return before the end of the year.”
