Jewell is keen to bring in the 33-year-old after having failed to sign Pascal Chimbonda in the January transfer window.
“We are trying to bring a couple of players into the squad, as I have been since I’ve been here,” said Jewell.
“Habib Beye has been mentioned and I’ve spoken to Aston Villa and that’s something I’ve been trying to do to improve the squad. But there’s been nothing yet.
“He was in France (on Wednesday). I hope he comes but I have not heard anything since Wednesday.”
