The new deal will keep the 31-year-old at the club until the summer of 2014.
An official statement read: “Roma and the player Julio Sergio would like to make note, with mutual satisfaction, of having reached an agreement to prolong his contract for sporting performances until June 30, 2014.
“The footballer will be recognised with a salary of €1.3m for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, a salary of €1.4m for the 2012-13 season and a salary of €0.7m for the 2013-14 season, further to individual bonuses for the realisation of fixed sporting objectives.”
