Lampard admits below par performances

England face elimination at the first hurdle is they fail to beat Slovenia tomorrow after two disappointing draws against the USA and Algeria.

“So far we’ve played in fit’s and starts,” Lampard told the Daily Mirror.

“With hindsight I think the USA game wasn’t actually too bad considering it was an opening game.

“If you’re blatantly honest about the game, we should have won it on the chances.

“But personally, I don’t think any player in the squad can say they have played to expectations and be really that honest about it.

“I think we’ve all been slightly below par, particularly against Algeria, and I want to come back firing and show what I can do.

“You’re only as good as your last game, but the most important game is always your next game.”
