Macheda has struggled to get into the Manchester United team, with Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney all ahead of him.
Bonetto said: “Fred can leave United, true but only on loan. The club and Sir Alex Ferguson have immense confidence in Chicco. With the return of [Michael] Owen however, the explosion of [Dimitar] Berbatov and [Javier] Hernandez and the continuation of [Wayne] Rooney, the space for him at Manchester United is a bit low. That’s why Ferguson said he was ready to consider a destination that encourages the growth of the boy.”
